Welcome to our online event where we’ll provide an introductory dive into the issue of human trafficking and exploitation across Missouri.
Join us for an eye-opening session to learn more about how to recognize and identify potential victims of human trafficking. By understanding the signs and indicators of trafficking, participants will be empowered to take action and provide safe and effective assistance to those in need.
This online training includes an interactive presentation followed by a Q&A session that is perfect for anyone in the community that is just learning about this important issue.
By the end of the session, participants will:
- Be able to recognize the sign and indicators of human trafficking.
- Know how to respond effectively and safely to potential trafficking situations.
- Feel empowered to report suspected cases of trafficking to appropriate providers.

We will also examine common tactics used online by traffickers to recruit and manipulate teenagers and adults.

Overview:
Housing remains a critical need for survivors in Missouri. Shelter options that offer trauma-informed, survivor-centered care are scarce. CATE is engaging statewide collaborators to identify and develop housing solutions tailored to survivors’ needs.
Purpose:
Identify housing resources and develop trauma-informed shelter options to fill gaps for survivors of trafficking.
Overview:
This committee evaluates trafficking training programs from a survivor-centered, trauma-informed perspective. It works to identify training gaps and develop new opportunities to ensure comprehensive education across Missouri. This committee is ideal for individuals passionate about education, public speaking, and developing impactful training programs.
Purpose:
- Develop a curated referral library of trainings aligned with Standards of Care best practices.
Overview:
Mental health is a top priority for survivors in Missouri. Barriers include limited access to trauma therapy, substance abuse detox, and behavioral health services. CATE is launching a statewide telehealth program to support survivors in rural areas.
Purpose:
- Aid in evaluating the statewide telehealth program.
- Identify existing mental health networks and develop coordinated responses.
- Research funding opportunities for collaborative grants within the CATE network.
Overview:
Legal services are an emerging critical need for survivors, covering both criminal and civil issues. Survivors often lack adequate representation to rebuild their lives post-trafficking. CATE aims to convene legal service providers and law enforcement collaborators to improve access to legal resources.
Purpose:
- Develop a coordinated community response to address survivors’ legal needs.
- Train legal and law enforcement sectors to adopt justice-oriented approaches over carceral models.
- Research funding opportunities for collaborative grants within the CATE network.
Overview:
Access to programming for human trafficking survivors in Missouri is limited, with only a few programs available statewide. The Survivor Services Workgroup, led by CATE, engages service providers to:
- Stay up to date on committee development
- Share information about existing services for survivors.
- Assist in establishing solutions for the service gaps identified in the MoCATE Needs Assessment
- Foster collaboration to improve survivor access to programming.
- Statewide Networking
Purpose:
Support CATE in developing a statewide, coordinated community response by providing insights into regional trends and centering the survivor perspective in program access.

Overview:
This quarterly workgroup focuses on advancing human trafficking education, advocacy, and awareness across Missouri. Each meeting features a representative from a different agency, providing insights on topics such as training, advocacy, and survivor services. The workgroup fosters knowledge sharing, collaboration, and networking, making it an excellent fit for advocates committed to improving outcomes for trafficking survivors and expanding education efforts statewide.
Purpose:
- Stay up to date on committee development.
- Review policies and legislation impacting trafficking survivors.
- Promote awareness of training initiatives and educational efforts.
- Foster a sense of community and collaboration among service providers.
- Guide the development, implementation, and evaluation of Standards of Care through Wave 1, 2, and 3 initiatives.
